Laurel and HardyComedy duo Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are to be immortalised in bronze. A statue honouring the pair is to be unveiled by comedian Ken Dodd in the County Square of Ulverston, Cumbria, where Laurel was raised.

The £60,000 statue, which was designed by Graham Ibbeson, is the culmination of 17 years of fund raising by the Sons Of The Desert, an international appreciation society for the duo.

The late comedy double-act visited the spot where the tribute has been placed in 1947, waving from the balcony of the Coronation Hall to a huge crowd of fans below.

Great news about the new statue, as Laurel and Hardy really are a national institution. But more to the point – I thought Ken Dodd died years ago!!

I have to admit I thought he had died too! Just looked it up on the web and according to a certain well known “infopaedia” site and it turns out that he’s alive and well after all and now the ripe old age of 81. And on top of that, up until last year at least, was still on stage! Maybe we were thinking of Tommy Cooper?…….

Thanks “Larlibelle”. I just looked it up myself and you’re right. Seems we weren’t the only ones though – there’s whole discussion boards out there dedicated to this subject, lol! I suppose I could have been thinking of Tommy Cooper but some other people on these sites have suggested we were all thinking of Rod Hull who used to do Emu. They are quite similar. Still think it was Ken Dodd though.

Get the feeling you two are brewing up for the old “Ken Dodd died, Did he? No, Doddy” joke, ain’t ya!
